Minister Marcin Kierwiński attends the migration summit in Munich. Poland leads the efforts to tighten migration policy in Europe

26.09.2026

Minister Marcin Kierwiński presented Poland's position at the international migration summit in Munich, urging the attendees to tighten EU regulations and secure its external borders. The Minister of the Interior and Administration stated that the solutions provided for in the Migration Pact are not enough to address the current challenges. He also pointed out that Poland's border protection mechanisms - including the temporary suspension of the right to asylum in the face of hybrid pressure - can serve as a model of an effective solution to be implemented across Europe. Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk also attended the event.

On Saturday, 26 September 2026, an international migration summit took place in Munich. The meeting was attended by ministers of the interior of 18 European states, including Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, as well as the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration. The Polish delegation was led by Marcin Kierwiński, Minister of the Interior and Administration, accompanied by Deputy Minister Maciej Duszczyk. The event was a platform for exchanging views and putting forward proposals on the further development of European migration policy.

Migration must not compromise security

During the international migration summit in Munich, Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński actively represented Poland and helped shape the debate on the future of European migration policy. During his talks with representatives of 18 European states and the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, the Polish Minister outlined Warsaw’s views on the stability and security of the external borders of the European Union.

Minister Marcin Kierwiński underscored the need to adapt the EU Migration Pact to the current circumstances and shared the experiences resulting from the implementation of various measures along the Polish-Belarusian border, including the temporary suspension of the processing of applications for international protection while dealing with hybrid pressure. The Minister of the Interior and Administration emphasised the importance of increasing the efficiency of return procedures and consistently upheld Poland’s position, which puts security first.

Poland’s measures to combat illegal migration serve as a model for Europe

During the meeting, Minister Kierwiński emphasised that European regulations should take into account the particular circumstances of individual Member States, suggesting that the Polish approach should serve as one of the points of reference in the search for effective systemic solutions for European partners.

The measures implemented by Poland to date are already being used as a model for the rest of the continent, which was recently confirmed by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The measures introduced by the Polish government, including the temporary suspension of the right to apply for international protection in the event of a hybrid threat, will be applied across the European Union as an effective tool for border protection.
