Polish-German Coordinators’ consultations

01.02.2021

The videoconference of Coordinators for Polish-German Cross-Border and Regional Cooperation: Bartosz Grodecki, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Interior and Administration and Dietmar Woidke, Minister-President of Brandenburg was held on Monday, 1st February 2021. The German side was also represented by the representatives of the federal ministries of internal affairs, foreign affairs and health, as well as representatives of the federal states of Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The discussion was concentrated on the current epidemic situation and the restrictions implemented to combat the spread of coronavirus in Poland and Germany. The particular attention has been focused on the Polish-German border area, whose inhabitants experience difficulties in crossing the border due to the restrictions in force.

The representatives of the three border federal states informed about their internal entry restrictions and quarantine and tests regulations for travelers from Poland. Minister Grodecki once again drew attention to the need for a uniform approach to the above-mentioned regulations in the border federal states, which would be clear and transparent for Poles from border regions.

Both sides agreed that there is a need to develop a common approach to the problem of free movement of cross-border workers in a situation where it is necessary to introduce restrictions at internal borders due to a pandemic or other situation requiring similar regulations.  It is also necessary to develop a protocol of proceedings which could be used in the future in case of challenges faced by both countries in the time of an epidemic.

The participants of the videoconference agreed on the need for a regular exchange of information and fixed a preliminary date for the next meeting in a similar format.
