Poland in New Zealand

Ambassador Patryk Błaszczak is a career diplomat and a member of the Polish civil service.

He is Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of the Republic of Poland to New Zealand, Samoa and Tuvalu since May 2025. Before, from January 2025, he headed the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Wellington as chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Republic of Poland.

Between December 2022 and March 2023, Ambassador Błaszczak was acting Director of the European Policy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Between 2020 and 2022, he served as Deputy Director of the European Policy Department responsible for Central and South-Eastern Europe as well as Poland’s National Coordinator of Visegrad Cooperation. Earlier, he headed the EU Institutional Affairs Unit (2018-2019) and acted as executive assistant to the Undersecretary of State for European Affairs and the United Nations (2009-2010). In 2011, he was seconded to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic.

He was previously posted in Copenhagen as Head of the Political and Economic Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the Kingdom of Denmark (2023-2024) and in Paris as Political Officer and later Head of the Political Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to the French Republic (2012-2018). He also served as Policy Officer at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York (2008-2009).

Ambassador Błaszczak graduated with distinction from the Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw (2007) and completed the foreign service programme at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

By presidential decision of 12 November 2020, he was awarded Bronze Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

He is fluent in English and French, with a fair command of Russian. He is married and has one son.
