Arrival of the new head of mission

Poland's Embassy in Wellington received a strong reinforcement with the arrival of the new Head of Mission Mr Patryk Błaszczak.

Mr Patryk Błaszczak has formally taken up his duties as Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Republic of Poland in New Zealand, Republic of Kiribati, Independent State of Samoa, the Kingdom of Tonga and Tuvalu.

Among his priorities will be strengthening the political ties between Poland and New Zealand, including in the area of security, as well as boosting bilateral trade and investment, supporting the Polish community in New Zealand and enhancing scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Mr Błaszczak is a career diplomat and a member of the Polish Foreign Service since 2008. He worked in numerous managerial positions at Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Deputy Director of the European Policy Department responsible for Central and South-Eastern Europe, and as National Visegrad Cooperation Coordinator.

He was previously posted in Copenhagen, Paris, and New York.

He is married and has one son, Iwo, who is about to start school as a third-grader in one of Wellington’s schools.
