In March, two major competitions for Polish-speaking children and youth were organised - Leicester Inter-school Recitation Contest, "Train Station Leicester" and the 8th edition of "The Golden Pen of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester" Spelling Contest.
On Saturday, 10 March, the second edition of the Leicester Inter-school Recitation Contest, "Train Station Leicester", was organised by the Polish Saturday School Edu Owls in Leicester. Jury members included the President of the Polish Educational Society in Great Britain, Elżbieta Barrass, and the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester, Michał Mazurek. The competition was attended by 40 participants in three age categories from 6 different Polish Saturday schools.
On Saturday, 16 March, the 8th edition of "The Golden Pen of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester" Spelling Contest took place at the Polish School in Manchester. More than 30 children from Northern England representing their respective Polish Saturday schools participated in the competition. The challenging dictation was compiled by Dr Natalia Moćko and Dr Kamila Kuros-Kowalska, researchers at the Institute of Linguistics at the University of Silesia, who supervised the dictation on the day.
The event was also an opportunity to meet Dr Aneta Nott-Bower, who gave a lecture to parents and teachers on the topic of bilingualism. Dr Nott-Bower is an expert in the field of bilingualism and, for many years, has combined her academic work with popularising bilingualism by organising workshops, lectures, and webinars for teachers and parents alike. She is also the author of the book "Recipe for Bilingualism" ("Przepis na dwujęzyczność").
