Introduction of ETIAS in 2027

The launch of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is planned for 2027. In the article, you will find important information for people who hold Polish citizenship and other nationalities, in reference to travelling to and through the Schengen Area and Cyprus.
The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to be launched in 2027.
ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to any of these 30 European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.
If you are a visa-exempt national travelling legally to any of the 30 participating European countries (the Schengen Area Member States and Cyprus), you will need an ETIAS travel authorisation to travel to Europe when the system enters into operation. ETIAS authorisation is not a visa, but it will constitute a mandatory entry requirement.
Remember, if a new passport is issued, a new ETIAS travel authorisation must be obtained.
Holders of a valid ETIAS travel authorisation may enter the territory of the above-mentioned European countries multiple times for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
However, possession of an ETIAS authorisation does not guarantee entry. Upon arrival at the external border, border control authorities will request the traveller’s passport and any other relevant documentation and will verify whether all entry conditions have been met.
Further information regarding ETIAS is available on the dedicated website: ETIAS.
If you are a Polish citizen holding a Polish passport, you do not need to register with ETIAS. Polish citizens who also hold citizenship of another country should use only Polish identity documents when dealing with the Polish authorities per the statement from the Polish Border Guard.
