Job Description

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London is seeking to appoint a Media and Public Relations Specialist to join its Political Section. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to promote the Embassy and its activities, and for managing relationships with the media and other external stakeholders.

Working within the Political Section, you will contribute to all aspects of media relations, public diplomacy, public relations, and event coordination undertaken by the Embassy, reporting directly to the Head of the Political Section.

You will play a key role in supporting the Embassy’s proactive media engagement and public diplomacy programme. This will involve cultivating strategic relationships with UK-based media outlets and partner institutions, often in collaboration with other departments of the Embassy and external partners.

This bilingual position encompasses a broad range of internal and external communications responsibilities within one of Poland’s largest and most politically significant diplomatic missions. It requires current knowledge of European and international politics, a sound understanding of diplomatic affairs, a high degree of sensitivity and discretion, the ability to remain composed under pressure and in crisis situations, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-profile diplomatic environment and to contribute to enhancing the image of Poland in the United Kingdom and strengthening Polish-British relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the Embassy and its activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with UK and Polish journalists and other media professionals.
  • Coordinate media engagement during high-level visits and official events.
  • Draft press releases, regular bulletins, reviews, speeches, and other communications materials.
  • Organise press conferences, interviews, and other media engagements, including support for state visits at various levels.
  • Monitor media coverage related to the Embassy and its activities.
  • Manage and update the Embassy’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, X [formerly Twitter], LinkedIn, YouTube).
  • Provide advice and support to Embassy staff on media relations and public communications.
  • Develop and execute public diplomacy campaigns and events (e.g., conferences, debates, seminars), often in partnership with external institutions such as think tanks and universities.
  • Provide translation and interpretation services as required.
  • Maintain the stock and distribution of promotional materials.
  • Report directly to the Head of the Political Section.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK (e.g., Settled Status or Indefinite Leave to Remain).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant professional experience in media, communications, or public relations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of European and international politics and diplomatic affairs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Polish.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to be available in urgent situations.
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professional discretion and confidentiality.
