Meeting with students from Texas
03.06.2025
Undersecretary of State Adam Nowak met with the American students, participants in the Poland-Texas Young Farmer Exchange Programme. The delegation was chaired by Professor Jim Mazurkiewicz from the Texas A&M University, who, together with the Polish Association of Grain Plant Producers, acts as the coordinator of the programme.
The Poland-Texas exchange programme, run since 2011, is addressed to young farmers from both countries. Every year, young people from Poland and Texas visit farms on the other side of the Atlantic, exchanging knowledge in the field of agriculture, education, economics and technology.
After meetings with representatives of agricultural institutions, the American participants of this year’s edition of the programme will go to Polish farms, where they will participate in the daily work of the host family and become familiar with Polish tradition, history and culture.
Functioning of the agricultural sector in Poland and the USA
Deputy Minister Adam Nowak noted that in Poland we placed a strong emphasis on agricultural education.
– We have 16 voivodeship agricultural advisory centres and the Agricultural Advisory Centre. These institutions offer training and services, financed from the state budget and EU funds. Under the supervision of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, there are also more than 60 agricultural schools and 12 modern research institutes – said the Undersecretary of State.
Deputy Minister Nowak also stressed that membership in the EU had significantly contributed to developing agriculture in Poland. We are the EU leader in the production and export of food in Europe – in 2024, the export to foreign markets reached a record-breaking amount of EUR 53.5 billion. We make use of EU funds that support competitiveness, environmental protection and job creation.
– As the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, we are working to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure food security. We also want to empower farmers in the supply chain and improve the attractiveness of this profession – added the Deputy Minister.
Professor Jim Mazurkiewicz appreciated the dynamic development of our country in the agricultural sector. He pointed to the further potential of Poland’s development in that area.
