It was the first meeting between Ambassador Dorj Barkhas and the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Ambassador presented letters of credentials on 10 September 2020.

The discussions addressed the state of development of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and prospects for such cooperation. Deputy Minister Ryszard Bartosik highlighted a long history of bilateral contacts between Poland and Mongolia, of which the agricultural sector is an important element.

The Ambassador of Mongolia referred to the ‘Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of Mongolia on extending a tied aid credit,’ which allows to implement projects related to modernization of agriculture. Polish Deputy Minister of Agriculture expressed the hope that Polish and Mongolian entrepreneurs will use this opportunity for cooperation.

A meeting of the Polish-Mongolian Committee for Economic Cooperation is planned to be carried out in 2021. Deputy Minister Bartosik expressed the hope that the meeting of this Committee will be a good opportunity to present the potential of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and a chance for entrepreneurs to establish trade relations.

The Ambassador said that Mongolian farmers are interested in agricultural modernization and the possibility to use new technologies related to the processing of meat, vegetables and fruit. He mentioned the sugar sector as one of the most promising areas of cooperation.

Poland has recorded a positive balance of trade in agri-food products. In 2020, exports of Polish agri-food products to Mongolia amounted to EUR 20 mln. The main exports are preserved fruit and vegetables, as well as pork.
