On the Development and Diversification of Cooperation Between Poland and Argentina in the Field of Agriculture and Trade in Agri-Food Products
03.10.2025
Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak met with the Ambassador of the Argentine Republic, Alicia Irene Falkowski, who is completing her diplomatic mission in Poland. The discussion focused on the potential for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the agri-food sector. The meeting took place on 29 September at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Polish Position
Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak recalled that Poland and Argentina enjoy long-standing friendly relations, with the sizeable Polish diaspora in Argentina constituting an important element of this bond. He emphasized that one of the main challenges concerns the significant deficit in agri-food trade with Argentina, which constitutes an obstacle on the way towards achieving proper balance of trade. This situation could be changed by opening the Argentine market more broadly to Polish agricultural products, which in turn would make it possible to better utilise the production potential of the Polish agri-food sector.
He also added that Poland is interested in expanding the range of goods exported to Argentina. In this context, he expressed hope for the finalisation of arrangements concerning health certificates for such products as salted pork casings and bladders, day-old chicks, hatching eggs, as well as sheep and goat milk, dairy products, and their derivatives.
The Argentine Position
Ambassador Falkowski presented the current economic situation in Argentina and outlined the conditions under which the agricultural sector operates in her country. She highlighted the great importance of further developing Polish-Argentine cooperation in the field of agriculture. The Ambassador also expressed interest in establishing cooperation between Polish research institutes supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and their Argentine counterparts.
Trade in Agri-Food Products with Argentina
In 2024, the value of agri-food exports to Argentina amounted to EUR 3.86 million, representing a 34% decrease compared to the previous year. The main export items included bread and pastry products, malt extract, and vegetables.
In contrast, agri-food imports from Argentina in 2024 reached EUR 774.76 million, of which as much as 78% (EUR 607.78 million) consisted of soybean meal.
