10.04.2025

“Poland is an important producer of fruit and vegetables not only in the EU, but also globally,” said Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak during the official opening ceremony of the FRESKON International Fruit and Vegetable Fair in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 10 April 2025. The Deputy Minister also inaugurated the Polish national stand at the fair, where he spoke with Polish fruit and vegetable suppliers about the current situation in the sector.

The event was also attended by the Greek Minister for Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, as well as representatives of the regional authorities and the fair’s management.

Opening of the Polish stand and talks with exhibitors

Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak, together with the Deputy Director General of the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Athens, and a representative of the Greek-Polish Chamber of Investment and Trade, officially opened the Polish stand at the FRESKON fair. Ten companies from the fruit and vegetable sector are showcasing their products at the Polish stand.

Deputy Minister Kołodziejczak emphasised that Poland is an important producer of fruit and vegetables not only in the EU, but also globally.

“Polish producers and processors play the biggest role in the export success of Polish food and are its best ambassadors,” said Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak.

The representative of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture encouraged Polish exhibitors to engage in dialogue with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

“I would like us to work together to improve the profitability of agricultural production and to develop systemic solutions that will strengthen the position of producers in the supply chain and ensure the competitiveness of the EU agricultural sector.”

Talks with the Greek Minister of Agriculture

The Polish stand was also visited by the Greek Minister for Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, accompanied by his team.

The ministers discussed the key issues and challenges faced by both Poland and Greece. Both countries recognise the need to improve the efficiency of water management in agriculture and are dealing with the consequences of ongoing climate change and extreme weather events, which are causing significant damage to crops.

In this context, both the Polish and Greek sides expect the EU to compensate producers affected by the climate crisis through a specially established fund.

Polish-Greek trade in agri-food products

Exports of agri-food products from Poland to Greece have been steadily growing since 2011, and a positive trade balance has been maintained since 2012.

In 2024, exports from Poland to Greece reached EUR 476 million, representing a 2% increase compared to the previous year.

About the trade fair

The International Fruit and Vegetable Fair FRESKON is considered one of the largest and most important exhibition events for the fruit and vegetable sector in the Balkans and Southeast Europe. Each year, the fair attracts growing interest from companies not only from Europe but also from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
