15.05.2025

Today, the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak talked with the representatives of the economic mission from Brazil: the representatives of the Brazilian Parliament, the authorities of the state of Parana, the University of Parana and Brazilian companies from the agricultural sector, about strengthening the Polish-Brazilian relations at the administrative level and new areas of cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The talks were also attended by the representatives of Polish companies from the agricultural sector, the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), the Plant Breeding and Protection Department and the Innovation, Digital Affairs and Knowledge Transfer Department.

Developing Polish-Brazilian cooperation in the agricultural sector

Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak stressed the strong position of Poland in the European Union in the production and export of poultry meat and dairy products. He also highlighted the need to balance the results of bilateral trade in agri-food products with Brazil. During the meeting, the Polish party stressed the readiness to organise meetings and trade missions with Polish-Brazilian companies from the agri-food industry and to act as an intermediary in the provision of commercial offers.

The Brazilian party expressed its interest in cooperation within the framework of scientific and research activities and drawing on Polish experience with regard to supporting family farms and the production and use of herbs.

Access to the Brazilian market for agri-food products

Currently, Poland is negotiating access to the Brazilian market, among others, for apples (it is required to complete the pest risk analysis), wheat, eggs and egg products. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is also seeking recognition by the Brazilian party of the regionalisation of African swine fever (ASF) and the possibility of approving Polish pork and beef establishments based on guarantees granted by the Polish veterinary services.

Trade in agri-food products with Brazil

In view of the high import potential of Brazil, the Polish party wants to balance bilateral trade in agri-food products. In 2024, the deficit in trade with Brazil in this regard amounted to EUR 992.9 million.

The export from Poland to Brazil in 2024 reached the value of EUR 61.1 million. We export mainly roasted barley malt (24% of export), bread and pastry as well as chocolate. The import of Brazilian food to the Polish market in 2024 reached the value of EUR 1,054 million. We mainly import oilcakes (51% of import), tobacco and coffee.
