27.03.2024

The state of relations in the field of agriculture

Director Wijatyk pointed to the need to balance Polish-Chinese trade and increase the export.

– Last year, Poland exported food worth nearly EUR 52 billion last year and has a significant surplus in agri-food trade. Against this background, we consider the recent results of export to China to be far below our potential – said the Director.

At the same time, he pointed out that the basic means to this end is to significantly expand access of Polish food to the Chinese market.

– In particular, we hope for a change in the attitude of China to the issue of exporting Polish meat. We expect that the principle of regionalisation in the field of animal diseases will be respected – added Wijatyk.

He also stressed that Poland expected the efficient completion of the recent technical arrangements and the commencement, in 2024, of exporting beef, blueberries and pet food to China.

Ambassador Sun Linjiang stated that Polish food was highly appreciated by Chinese consumers due to its quality and taste. He noted that the Chinese market was absorbent and there was room there for other categories of agri-food products from Poland.

Trade in agri-food products

China is an important partner of Poland in agri-food trade. In 2023, our export to that country reached a value of EUR 147.6 million. For several years, Polish milk and milk products have enjoyed the greatest interest of Chinese consumers. The Ministry of Agriculture carries out numerous information and promotional measures in the market of the PRC. In 2024, Polish stands will be organised at the Sial China fair in Shanghai in May and the FOOD EXPO PRO fair in Hong Kong in August.
