Position od Poland

Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak pointed to the issue of recognition by the authorities of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) of regionalisation in the field of avian influenza and resumption of export of Polish poultry meat, taking this principle into account.

– The principle of regionalisation in relation to Polish poultry meat is respected in the most demanding markets, and Polish poultry is exported to countries and regions all over the world – added the Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State summarised the findings of the existing Polish-Chinese technical talks and the activities undertaken in this regard by the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Deputy Minister Czerniak also reminded that on 5 April Poland had regained its status as a country free from avian influenza.

– Poland is the leader in the production of poultry in the European Union. I am convinced that bringing the export of Polish poultry meat back to the Chinese market will bring mutual benefits – stressed Deputy Minister Jacek Czerniak.

Position of China

Deputy Minister LYU Weihong confirmed that the Chinese party was ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation and activities for the benefit of increasing the import of agri-food products from Poland.

Summary of the talks

The parties agreed on the intensification of work on bringing the export of Polish poultry meat back to the PRC and on completing access procedures for other products.

The representatives of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also organised a visit for the GACC delegation to one of the Polish poultry meat processing plants. Its objective was to show the representatives of the Chinese authorities the food safety standards applicable in Poland and the European Union.

Trade in agri-food products

China is an important partner of Poland in agri-food trade. In 2023, the Polish export to the PRC reached a value of EUR 147.6 million. For several years, Polish milk and milk products have enjoyed the greatest interest of Chinese consumers. The Ministry of Agriculture carries out numerous information and promotional measures in the Chinese market. In 2024, Polish stands will be organized in May – at the Sial China fair in Shanghai and in August – at the FOOD EXPO PRO fair in Hong Kong.
