Polish-Ukrainian talks

Further talks were held between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval. Yesterday’s online meeting was also attended by the representatives of industry organisations from both countries. Minister Siekierski was accompanied by the Secretary of State Michał Kołodziejczak and Director General Bogusław Wijatyk.

Meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine with the participation of trade organisations of both countries

This was the third meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Ukraine with the participation of industry organisations. Previous talks in this format were held in March and April 2024.

Course of discussion

The objective of the meeting was to discuss mutual relations in the field of agriculture, including trade between Poland and Ukraine. In this context, the suggestions and insights expressed by the agricultural organisations were very valuable.

Minister Siekierski stressed the importance of the dialogue carried out at different levels and stressed that it should be helpful in developing solutions beneficial for both countries.

During the meeting, the Polish party presented the situation in selected agricultural markets. It recalled the problems resulting from the excessive import from Ukraine in the years 2022/2023. It also referred to the potential of cooperation with Ukrainian partners as regards the use of bioethanol and the production of protein feedstuffs.

Minister Koval pointed to the problems of Ukrainian farmers and food producers caused by the ongoing war. He also stated that Ukraine had learned from its experience in the agri-food export to Poland at the turn of 2022 and 2023. He expressed his hope for cooperation with the Polish party in the current resolution of problematic issues.

Findings

The heads of the Ministries of Agriculture of both countries agreed that meetings with the participation of industry organisations should be held on a regular basis, at least once a quarter.
