Certificate entitling to import and export arms and ammunition to/from the territory of the Republic of Poland

Where to apply?

You will obtain the certificate at the Polish consular office competent for your place of residence (please visit the section "Embassy & Consulates" for contact information and opening hours of the consular offices of Poland in Canada).

Please note that after obtaining a certificate entitling you to import weapons and ammunition to the Republic of Poland and to export it abroad you will be obliged to present this certificate to the Border Guard and have it stamped to confirm the crossing of the border.

Do I have to apply in person?

You can submit the documents personally or through an authorised representative.

What documents do I need to submit?

Please prepare:

  • identity document,
  • permit to possess weapons,
  • complete weapon registration card,
  • information on the amount of ammunition, the kind and model of cartridge.

Inform the consul about the purpose of your travel with weapon: hunting, sporting event or historical reenactment - preferably present an invitation or reservation.

The organiser of hunting, a sporting event or historical reenactment with foreign participants should inform in writing - at least 7 days before the planned event - the Provincial Police Commander competent for the location of the hunting, sporting event or historical reenactment about the planned date and location of the said hunting, sporting event or historical reenactment and approximate number of participants.

Inform the consul about the intended entry and exit date of the territory of Poland.

How much does it cost?

The fee is 88 CAD. 

The fees must be paid at the office counter when submitting the application. Accepted forms of payment: cash, money order, certified bank check (credit cards, debit cards or personal checks are not accepted). Consulate General in Toronto accepts debit and credit cards except American Express.

What is the waiting time?

Consul issues the certificates without undue delay, not later than 14 days from the filing date.

How to collect the documents?

Personally. You can also apply to have the certificate sent by mail if you pay the postage.

How to appeal?

If the certificate is refused, the consul will issue a decision. You can appeal to the Minister of Foreign Affairs within 7 days. The appeal is lodged through the consul who had issued the decision.

Who is entitled to import weapons and ammunition to the Republic of Poland and to export it abroad?

  • Foreigners and Polish citizens permanently resident abroad who visit Poland for hunting events (hunters who import arms for the purpose of hunting may import and export no more than 100 pieces of ammunition).
  • Foreigners or Polish citizens permanently resident abroad who stay in Poland for sporting events, the rules of which require the use of weapons, and for historical reenactments and for the preparation of such events, may import and export weapons suitable for sports or historical reenactments and ammunition suitable for this kind of weapons in the amount specified by the organisers of sporting events or historical reenactments in the invitations.

Foreigners or Polish citizens permanently resident abroad who import to Poland flare guns if the guns are part of the equipment of a vessel or an aircraft.
