Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants

Stockholm Convention is an international treaty legally binding for all its member states. The Convention’s aim is to restrict the manufacture and use, and the unintended environmental release of chemical substances that have the following properties: pose a threat to human health and the environment, are persistent, are able to bioaccumulate, and can be transported across international boundaries.

EU legislation

Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on persistent organic pollutants (recast), implements the provisions of the Stockholm Convention in the European Union. This regulation contains additional provisions which outreach the scope of the Convention to enhance the protection of health and the environment.
