25.11.2020

The deepening of cooperation in the development of hydrogen technologies in Poland under the hydrogen industry contract was the main topic of the videoconference with industry representatives who joined the Letter of Intent on establishing a partnership for building a hydrogen economy and concluding a sectoral hydrogen agreement. The event, which took place on 25 November 2020, was attended by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Ireneusz Zyska, and over a hundred representatives of the world of business and science.

Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska on cooperation in the field of hydrogen economy

Deputy Minister Zyska emphasised that the hydrogen industry contract will be the basic activity aimed at the implementation of the planned Polish Hydrogen Strategy. The aim of the proposed sectoral agreement will be to define a list of long-term activities for the development of a new industry, to be furtherly implemented by public and private entities.

The deputy minister of climate and environment also pointed out the key importance of the government’s continued cooperation with representatives of the sector, current and future investors, as well as entrepreneurs building the domestic hydrogen economy supply chain. To facilitate the development of the provisions of the industry contract, the Minister proposed the establishment of 7 partnership working groups, which will focus on the key challenges of the development of the hydrogen economy.

Such a contract will be concluded between the public entity responsible for coordinating support in the field of hydrogen technologies – the Ministry of Climate and Environment – and representatives of the hydrogen sector in Poland. The hydrogen agreement will achieve and deepen the ambitions of the Polish Hydrogen Strategy and will enable building strong national competences in the field of hydrogen, he said.

The deputy minister also added that the most important goal of the project is to define specific measures and activities for the development of a new industry, which the signatories will undertake to implement. The hydrogen industry contract will define the scope of tasks to be performed by both parties as well as the catalogue and offer of legislative, organisational, institutional and financial instruments.

During the meeting, the gathered guests also raised issues related to Polish ambitions in the field of energy transition in Poland.

Poland should support a wide spectrum of hydrogen technologies, and new investments should support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Poland is currently one of the leaders in terms of hydrogen production volume. Within the energy transition, we will get to a point where we will have a surplus of renewable energy, however until we reach this moment, we will have a lot of work to do. I am convinced that the dialogue between the public and private sectors will unlock the potential of our science and business, he emphasised.
