23.02.2026The growing scale of disinformation about low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps is one of the key challenges for the modernisation of heating systems, improving air quality and energy security in Poland. On 19 February, the Ministry of Climate and Environment held a press conference combined with an expert session dedicated to analysing this phenomenon. 'DezInfoRADAR: facts and myths about heat pumps,' attended by Deputy Minister Krzysztof Bolesta, brought together representatives of public administration, civil society and industry circles affected by the effects of disinformation.

20.02.2026The Ministry of Climate and Environment has prepared a draft law that will increase the effectiveness of the Inspectorate of Environmental Protection and speed up proceedings after violations of the law have been identified. The planned changes will simplify procedures, shorten the time needed to issue decisions and strengthen the protection of human health and the environment, while reducing the administrative burden on businesses and authorities. Detailed information on the draft bill were presented by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Anita Sowińska and Hanna Kończal, Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection, during a press conference on 20 February 2026 in Warsaw.

18.02.2026The Białowieża Forest already fuels the budgets of nearby municipalities, and its potential could be even greater. Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Mikołaj Dorożała discussed how to exploit this potential with local government officials during a meeting in the region. Discussions focused on the benefits of nature conservation and plans for the future. In 2025, 'forest' municipalities received over PLN 14.2 million in environmental subsidies, and another PLN 10 million per year may be within reach.

13.02.2026Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, Chief Nature Conservator Mikołaj Dorożała met with Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the World Heritage Centre, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. During the talks, he presented a draft of the new Management Plan for the Białowieża Forest, the first in over a decade. UNESCO gave a positive assessment to the solutions, which were developed after extensive consultations with local authorities, experts and residents of the region.

13.02.2026The European hamster (Cricetus cricetus) has won the title of Animal of the Year 2026. In a nationwide poll organised by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, over 33,000 votes were cast, with this endangered rodent species receiving over 10,000. Throughout 2026, the European hamster will be the subject of a special educational campaign. The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) took second place with over 4,500 votes, and the grey wolf (Canis lupus) took third place.+

13.02.2026Over PLN 36 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan will go towards a project that could change the way people travel in Poland. Thanks to the construction of the first Polish hydrogen train, passengers will enjoy quieter, cleaner and more comfortable connections, especially in areas where there is currently no electrification. This investment will significantly improve the quality of life and allow for the development of railways in smaller towns without burdening the environment. The subsidy for the development of the country's first passenger hydrogen vehicle with additional power from the traction network will be awarded to the company Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A. The agreement with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM) was signed on 13 February 2026. The event was attended by the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska.

12.02.2026The Ministry of Climate and Environment has prepared a draft act on assistance for victims of the Clean Air programme. It introduces the possibility of suspending the recovery of unsettled advances from beneficiaries who have been harmed by dishonest companies. This is a response to the problems of the poorest beneficiaries who have been defrauded by dishonest contractors in the Clean Air programme. The government will help to pursue claims directly from companies subject to criminal proceedings. The draft bill will now be submitted for consultation and review.
