    Changes to forest management in border areas, ecosystem restoration and the renaturalisation of water resources - Poland is using its natural potential to create a barrier unique on a European scale, combining nature conservation with the National Deterrence and Defence Programme. The details were discussed during a joint conference by the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska; the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Cezary Tomczyk; the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Urszula Zielińska; and the Chief Nature Conservator, Mikołaj Dorożała.

    Cooperation between Poland and the Netherlands in the field of critical raw materials was the subject of a meeting between Deputy Minister Krzysztof Bolesta and Erwin Nijsse, the Netherlands' Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. The ministers discussed the monitoring of critical raw material resources with a view to securing supply chains that are key to electromobility, energy storage and the hi-tech industry. The meeting took place on 11 May 2026.

    Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister for Climate and Environment, has signed a regulation establishing a game protection zone within the buffer zone of the 'Ujście Warty' (Mouth of Warta River) National Park. Until now, bird protection in this area has been insufficient, partly due to hunting activities taking place there. The changes will benefit both nature and the local community, farmers and visitors to the Park. The regulation will come into force 30 days after its publication in the Journal of Laws.

    On 30 April 2026, Poland's Chief Geologist Krzysztof Galos and US Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker signed a bilateral memorandum of cooperation on critical raw materials between Poland and the United States. The agreement covers the extraction, processing and recycling of critical raw materials, including rare earth metals.

    Over the past two and a half years, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has carried out key initiatives in the areas of climate, the environment and energy - from postponing ETS2 and making record investments in clean energy, through the removal of illegal hazardous waste, to forest protection and strengthening raw material security. As Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska emphasises, this has been a period of intense work, involving dozens of bills and hundreds of measures that are tangibly improving the quality of life for residents and strengthening the country's security.

    The new programme, financed by the Norwegian and EEA Grants, will provide Poland with EUR 160 million for measures to accelerate the climate and energy transition. The funds will be allocated to projects related to climate, energy, nature conservation and the circular economy. The programme will be operated by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. On 20 April 2026, in the presence of Krzysztof Bolesta, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, signed an agreement for the implementation of the programme.

    The Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) has requested documents relating to the Clean Air Programme from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM) and voivodship funds, covering the period from June 2021. CBA officers are acting on behalf of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting an investigation into alleged dereliction of duty by public officials in connection with the drafting of operational guidelines and the implementation of subsequent stages of the Clean Air Programme. The Ministry had reported possible irregularities linked to changes to the programme introduced in 2022 and 2023.

    The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM) has signed an agreement with ORLEN Termika S.A. to co-finance the construction of a wastewater heat recovery system at the Żerań Wastewater Pumping Station in Warsaw. The investment is a strategic project that addresses both increasingly stringent environmental requirements and the needs of Warsaw's residents for a stable heat supply.

    The Ministry of Climate and Environment has taken responsibility for preparing the Long-Term Climate Strategy (LTS), a key document setting out the direction of Poland's climate and energy transition until 2050. Completion of the work is scheduled for the end of 2026.
