Minister Kurtyka at Congress 590

05.05.2021

Challenges of the European Green Deal are the main topic of the discussions at the 590 Congress panel “New Green Deal – what does it mean for business? How to match the business model to the conditions in which sustainability is not only a marketing ploy but one of the pillars of your business?”. The event, which took place on 5 May 2021, was attended by Michał Kurtyka, Minister of Climate and Environment.

Minister klimatu i środowiska Michał Kurtyka

As Minister Kurtyka emphasised, Poland is in favour of climate policy and also of the European New Green Deal.

During the COP24 conference in Katowice in 2018, we confirmed our ambitions regarding the energy and climate change. It is there that we stressed the importance of a just transition that takes account of the country's specific circumstances -

he said.

The Minister also pointed out that the Energy Policy of Poland until 2040 is the foundation for carrying out the transformation.

The Energy Policy indicates actions to be undertaken to make the Polish economy a low-carbon one. We want to build our offshore energy system, invest in photovoltaics and nuclear power. The transformation brings both challenges and opportunities – it is an investment in the competitiveness of our economy and the development of our country, but also in new jobs,

he stressed.

The minister also drew attention to the role of the National Reconstruction Plan.

In the next few years, within the framework of the National Reconstruction Plan, the total amount of 17 billion Polish zlotys will be spent on improving air quality in Poland, which will generate many jobs, including in the thermal-modernisation companies. This money will reach not only the families but also Polish companies,

he added.

During the meeting, the minister pointed out that the transition does not end only on energy, but also extends to the transport sector.

Our transformation is expanding to include electromobility. We are pioneers in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries or electric buses,

he said.
