30.07.2020

Waste Oil Management - the assumptions for reform and a proposed act were the key topics discussed at the press breakfast held on 30 July 2020 at the Ministry of Development. The event was attended by the Minister of Climate Michał Kurtyka.

In recent years, the Ministry of Climate (previously known as the Ministry of Environment) has introduced new, key legal solutions aiming at eliminating irregularities in waste management. Despite that, we continue to analyse and closely monitor the market situation. We are open for suggestions and solutions proposed by other Ministries, the representatives of the waste management industry or non-governmental organisations – said the Minister of Climate Michał Kurtyka.

The meeting was held also to present the report titled “Waste Oil Management - Assumptions for Reforms and a Proposal for an Act”, which contains a draft amendment to the act and a presentation of solutions for limiting illegal burning of waste oil and which are going to contribute to limit the grey market in the oil industry.

The essence of the draft developed in cooperation with UN’s Global Compact Network Poland Initiative (GCNP), government administration - Ministry of Development, Ministry of Climate as well as Ministry of Finance and the Energy Regulatory Office as well as non-governmental organisations and representatives of the fuel industry lies with increasing the security of the current system of managing waste oil and counteracting illegal burning of waste oil.

I believe that these actions will contribute to the maximum limitation of the grey market in that area, also by allowing for effective execution of the imposed obligations. I also hope, that our actions will also increase the awareness of Polish citizens in that area. I also wish to ensure that the implemented changes will bring measurable, positive environmental effects – summarises the Minister.
