The debate “Is offshore wind energy a solution for the EU’s energy challenges?” was organised by the Politico editorial board in cooperation with the Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE Group). In addition to the presence of Minister of Climate and Environment, Michał Kurtyka, it was attended also by the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, CEO of WindEurope, Giles Dickson and Executive Director of Agora Energiewende, Patrick Graichen.

The debate addressed such topics as the European Union’s activities aimed at the development of wind energy, the potential impact of offshore industry on the labour market and the issue of just transition.

Minister Kurtyka pointed to the dynamic steps taken by Poland in recent months to allow wind farms to be developed in the Baltic Sea.

In February, the law we prepared to support the offshore wind sector came into force; it should accelerate the development of offshore wind farm projects in the near future. The offshore facilities developed in the Baltic Sea can potentially play an important role in achieving Europe’s climate neutrality by 2050 and in the energy transformation of the countries of the region
