The first meeting of the Global Future Council on Clean Air, where an international body of experts in environmental issues jointly work on improving air quality, took place on 19 October. Reducing the level of household emissions, emissions generated by municipal sector and transport, which have the greatest impact on urban pollution, is one of the aspects of the fight for clean air for Poles. As the minister pointed out, other aspects, such as increasing the level of energy efficiency, in particular in the case of heating, but also for electricity, as well as ensuring energy security through the development of low-carbon energy technologies and energy storage – including hydrogen – are of equally high importance.

The flagship activity of the Ministry of Climate and Environment aimed at tackling the issue of air pollution is the national subsidy programme for replacing obsolete heat sources, entitled “Clean Air”. Another example of what we have done is the "City with Climate" initiative, under which we support cities in their transition towards becoming climate-friendly cities said Minister Kurtyka during his speech.

The main objectives of the Global Council on Clean Air include promoting initiatives, stimulating their development and exchanging best practices internationally. The Council will encompass representatives of universities, public administration and entrepreneurs from all over the world, who will participate in its works.
