Joint action on energy security, as well as the restoration of Ukraine's natural resources and elements of its flora and fauna, and the issue of starting negotiations on a bilateral agreement on environmental impact assessments in a transboundary context were the topics of talks between Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Deputy Ministers Mikołaj Dorożała and Maciej Bando with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine. The agreement on Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the field of energy (the so-called Memorandum of Understanding) was signed during meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian side on 28 March 2024 at the Ministry's headquarters.

During the talks, it was emphasised that the Russian aggression against Ukraine constitutes a humanitarian and ecological catastrophe that causes significant damage to Ukraine's environment and threatens the destruction of natural resources and elements of Ukraine's flora and fauna.

The Polish side also assured its readiness to support Ukraine in ecological reconstruction and elimination of environmental damage.

The General Directorate for Environmental Protection is ready to share with Ukraine legal solutions to environmental damage and to support it in assessing environmental damage and, in the future, in demanding material compensation from the Russian Federation for the damage, which is undoubtedly significant and affects us all

– said Deputy Minister Mikołaj Dorożała.

We are ready to share our knowledge on effective ways to carry out a fair transition and to align national legislation in the Ukrainian energy sector with EU regulations and international practices

– she added.
