The “Clean hydrogen from RES in Poland” report

07.12.2021

The increased importance of hydrogen from renewable energy sources in the domestic economy is associated with the need to boost production capacity from RES. The core role in this process is attributed to development of wind energy, which will ensure the necessary contribution of power for the purposes of hydrogen economy development. These are only the few issues discussed in the report of the Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA) and the Lower Silesian Institute for Energy Studies (LSIES) entitled “Clean hydrogen from RES in Poland” premiered on 7 December in the seat of the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

The “Clean hydrogen from RES in Poland” report

As it has been rightly remarked in the subtitle of the report presented by the PWEA, LSIES and the representatives of scientific community, the use of wind energy and PV to produce green hydrogen poses an opportunity to deliver the objectives of the EU energy and climate policy in Poland

- said the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Ireneusz Zyska.

Achieving climate neutrality requires among others the wide-scale implementation of the hydrogen technologies. Pursuant to the Polish Hydrogen Strategy (PHS) until 2030 with a perspective until 2040, hydrogen will become one of the key energy carriers. Its use in the power, heating, transport and industry sectors will continue to grow. Until 2030, the number of hydrogen buses produced in the country to be released on the Polish roads will reach 800-1000.

Our plans are 2GW capacity of the installations used to produce hydrogen and its derivatives from low-carbon sources until 2030. To this end, we need to ensure the availability of relevant installed capacities in the RES sector. On the other hand, renewable hydrogen will boost further development of renewable energy, enabling storage of surplus energy and its later use in the power industry and other economic sectors.   We will also develop the infrastructure supplying hydrogen to the end recipients and establish the support schemes for hydrogen production from low-carbon sources

- added the Deputy Minister.

The “Green hydrogen from RES in Poland” report is the first comprehensive study discussing the issue of renewable hydrogen. The study presents the existing condition of the hydrogen market and its future development perspectives. According to the analyses presented by the PWEA and LSIES, hydrogen, including in particular hydrogen produced with the use of RES, may become the foundation for the Polish and EU industry operation within the next few decades.
