Vice-Minister Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński at the meeting of the Working Group on Climate within the Conference on the Future of Europe

25.10.2021

“Climate change is the issue strongly involving the citizens of the European Union. The Conference on the Future of Europe is a perfect forum to work-out joint solutions. The course of the previous European Citizens’ Panels demonstrates that the Europeans are most willing to involve in the debates on the issues that affect their everyday living, such as climate protection” – said Vice-Minister of Climate and Environment Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński during the Working Group on Climate within the Conference on the Future of Europe held on 22 October 2021 in Strasbourg.

Wiceminister Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński na posiedzeniu grupy roboczej ds. klimatu w ramach Konferencji na rzecz Przyszłości Europy

The Conference on the Future of Europe is a series of debates and discussions carried out by the citizens. It forms the forum of debate with the civil society i.e. the citizens and non-governmental organisations on the challenges and priorities faced by the European Union.

From the perspective of Poland, the social dimension of the climate policy is of particular importance. Poland consistently points out at the need to ensure just transition, consider social needs, including in particular of the most vulnerable consumers.

The course of the third European Citizens’ Panel demonstrated a wide range of interests of the citizens, such as: climate education, biodiversity protection, pollution reduction. All these issues are of importance also for the Polish Government and should trigger further activities of the EU institutions and actors

– said Vice-Minister Guibourgé-Czetwertyński .

As pointed out by the Vice-Minister of Climate and Environment, in recent years we have been observing particular interest in climate change among the young generation.

In 2020, the Minister of Climate and Environment appointed the Youth Climate Council acting as its advisory and consultation body. It is an important voice in the process of developing the new legislative solutions related to climate policy in Poland

– emphasized the Vice-Minister.

Poland puts a great attention to the initiatives related to climate protection. The ambitious new objectives of the EU’s climate policy have and will continue to have a significant impact on our economy and social situation. They form both a challenge and an opportunity to implement green transformation in Poland supported by the EU funds.

Ensuring just transition supporting social inclusion should be the priority. In this context, tackling the energy poverty is of particular importance. Without social acceptance, introduction of the ambitious EU solutions in the area of climate policy will be ineffective.

Poland will make all efforts to prevent the transition at the expense of the least wealthy social groups. Therefore we support all initiatives at the European level that aim at establishment of concrete and adequate framework of financial support tailored to the needs of persons in difficult situation

– summarised the Vice-Minister of Climate and Environment.

The results of works of individual Working Groups will be presented during the Plenary Session by the chairmen and one citizen from each Group.
