Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin met with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai

Transatlantic cooperation, including Poland's involvement in the newly established Trade and Technology Council , issues related to WTO reform and Polish-American economic relations were the main topics of the videoconference between Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin and Katherine Tai, the United States Trade Representative.

The conversation was organised at the initiative of the American side. It was the third meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin with the high representative of the US administration in recent weeks.

During the meeting, issues of transatlantic cooperation were raised, including the role of our country in the US-EU Trade and Technology Council, established in June this year.

Poland is a supporter of dialogue within the framework of the Joint Transatlantic Agenda, which will allow us to jointly face global challenges.

We hope that on the forum of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) it will be possible to cooperate on issues such as cyber security, e-commerce solutions, competition rules and development of digital innovations

- emphasised Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Labour and Technology Development Jarosław Gowin.

Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin and US Trade Representative Katherine Tai also discussed American investments in Poland. A separate topic was devoted to the involvement of the USA in the Tri-City Initiative and Polish concerns about the prospect of completing the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream2.

Polish-American economic relations

The United States is one of Poland's most important trading partners outside the European Union - it is our second export market and third import market. In 2020, mutual turnover amounted to USD 15.5 billion. In Q1 2021, Polish exports grew by 14% y/y.

According to a KPMG report, the USA is the second most important investor in Poland, accounting for 13% of the value of all foreign direct investments (4% of Poland's GDP). Companies with American capital employ about 267,000 people in Poland.

Poland is the main recipient of American investments in Central and Eastern Europe. 40% of the total capital invested by American companies in the countries of our region is located in our country.
