Minister Nowak: investment of Google in Poland confirms the stability of our economy

07.03.2022

The investment of Google for nearly PLN 2.7 billion is the largest single office transaction in the history of the Polish market. In the office building located in Warsaw at the Daszyńskiego roundabout, 2,500 jobs are to be created, mainly for IT specialists. This shows that Poland is not only an attractive market for foreign investors, but also becomes one of the more important European centres of technology development. On the occasion of the announcement of the investment, Minister Piotr Nowak met at the Google headquarters with the American Ambassador, Mark Brzezinski. The subject of the talks was American investments in Poland, the position of the Polish economy and aid to Ukraine at war.

The American IT giant has decided to purchase a complex of two office buildings at the The Warsaw HUB for its headquarters. In this way, the establishment in the Polish capital has become the largest office developing Google cloud computing technologies in Europe. The purchase of office buildings is also the largest investment of Google in Poland.

I am glad that thanks to such investments as Google, Poland has its share in the development of global cloud solutions that support virtually all branches of the modern economy

– said the Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Piotr Nowak during the meeting with the American Ambassador, Mark Brzezinski. The Minister stressed that the Google investment is an expression of trust in the Polish economy and its stability.

This is not a financial investment, where with one click you can buy assets for PLN 3 billion and sell them on the next day. These are real investments, investments in companies, investments in buildings, in infrastructure. This is to show that the prospects for the next 5, 10, 15 years for a given economy are very good

– said Minister Nowak. And he stressed:

There is no security without a solid economy. A country that has a solid and fast-growing economy is a secure country.

Poland will help enterprises from Ukraine

In this context, Minister Novak referred to the military aggression of Russia against Ukraine. He informed that the Polish economy was ready to accept Ukrainian companies and provide them with support so that they could continue their activities in our country.

Polish government is working on special regulations to make it easier for Ukrainian entrepreneurs to register in our country, relocate production and operate

– said Minister Nowak.

Polish-American economic relations

The Minister of Economic Development and Technology stressed the strong ties between Poland and the United States and the strategic partnership between the two countries.

I hope our relations were, are and will be strong

– stressed Piotr Nowak.

The Minister emphasised that the Polish economy was one of the most dynamically developing economies. Over the past 30 years, we have taken second place in terms of the development rate on a global scale. Over the last 6 years, the Polish economy has grown by 24%, while the German economy has recorded an increase by 6% over this period. This shows our potential – added the Minister.

Record-breaking investment of Google in Poland

The purchase of office buildings in The Warsaw HUB is a continuation of the investment of Google in Poland. So far, the company has been the main lessee of the building located at Daszyńskiego Square in the Warsaw district of Wola. In 2021, Google leased a dozen or so floors in one of the skyscrapers of the Warsaw HUB complex with an area of over 20,000 sqm. Now, the company has decided to purchase the buildings of the complex (two 130-metre office buildings) and to continue to develop the centre.

Today, we are strengthening our commitment in Poland, by investing nearly PLN 2.7 billion in the purchase and further development of The Warsaw HUB office complex, in the very heart of the capital. Last year, we located and opened our new office in this building – creating the workplace of teams responsible for the development of the most advanced Google Cloud solutions used by our customers all over the world

– wrote in a statement the director of Google Poland, Magdalena Kotlarczyk.
