Minister Nowak signed an agreement on cooperation between the defence industries of Poland and Romania

Poland and Romania will cooperate in the field of defence industries - stipulates the agreement on cooperation in the field of defence industries of both countries, signed by Minister of Economic Development and Technology Piotr Nowak and Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy of Romania Daniela Nicolescu.

The signing of the document took place during Wednesday's visit to Poland of Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă. During Prime Minister Ciucă's stay in Warsaw, Polish-Romanian intergovernmental consultations were held.

Minister of Economic Development and Technology Piotr Nowak, Romanian Minister of Enterprise and Tourism Constantin-Daniel Cadariu and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy of Romania Daniela Nicolescu held economic consultations. Earlier, Minister Nowak and Minister Cadariu opened the economic round table - a meeting of representatives of business institutions and entrepreneurs from both countries.

There are promising prospects for cooperation between Poland and Romania. Our countries have become known as reliable trade and investment partners and important centres of European industry

- Minister Piotr Nowak said during the talks of the Polish-Romanian economic round table.

Minister Nowak invited Romanian entrepreneurs to the Polish-Romanian Business Forum, which is planned for June 2022.

Thursday marked one week since Russia's military attack on Ukraine and both ministers referred to these unprecedented circumstances in their speeches.

Russia's cruel aggression against Ukraine has highlighted the need for closer cooperation between democratic countries, including in the economic dimension,

- Minister Nowak said.

Our meeting is taking place under circumstances that we did not even imagine could happen in the 21st century,

- Romanian Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism Constantin-Daniel Cadariu said.

Minister Cadariu expressed the hope that the intergovernmental consultations will contribute to the strengthening of economic relations between Poland and Romania on many levels. Already today, Poland ranks 5th in Romanian exports, 4th in deliveries to Romania, and in 2021 the level of trade turnover exceeded EUR 9 billion, which was an increase of 20% compared to the previous year, the Romanian minister said.

Cooperation between the defence industries of Poland and Romania

Our country is interested in carrying out joint projects with Romania in the field of defence industry. Minister Piotr Nowak stressed that cooperation in the field of defence industry can contribute to the development of the armed forces and industrial sectors of both countries.

In the presence of Prime Ministers Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland and Nicolae Ciucă of Romania, Minister Piotr Nowak signed, together with Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economy of Romania Daniel Nicolescu, an agreement on cooperation in the field of defence industries of Poland and Romania.

According to the signed agreement, Poland and Romania committed themselves to:

  • cooperation in defence-related issues, especially in the field of: research, development, production, maintenance and repair, modernisation of military systems and weapon systems, defence materials, technical equipment, technical displays, spare parts and tools;
  • the execution of joint research and development projects in the field of defence industry with a view to producing equipment for which both States or third parties have common or similar needs
  • the acquisition of military and defence equipment produced or developed jointly in one of the States Parties
  • the exchange of experience on operational matters and information related to defence technologies.

The agreement provides for the establishment of a Joint Commission in the field of defence industry, which will coordinate the implementation of tasks related to the implementation of the provisions of the document.

The role of the commission will be, inter alia, to prepare periodic reviews and evaluations on the implementation of the agreement, including the implementation of agreements and contracts concluded between companies producing military systems and equipment.
