Strengthening tourism cooperation between Poland and Croatia

Ministers Andrzej Gut-Mostowy and Tonči Glavina discussed possibilities for closer cooperation, tourism exchange between the two countries and promotion during the opening panel of the 8th Warsaw Tour Promotion Forum and during bilateral discussions at the headquarters of the MEDLT.

We are pleased to note the systematic increase in tourism trade between our countries. I hope that the citizens of Croatia are going to with to learn about the country of origin of many tourists who visit their homeland on summer holidays.

Our country offers a very wide and varied range of tourists from spa tourism to culinary and cycling tourism. Culinary tourism and wine tourism are relatively new areas of popular foreign tourists in Poland. The East of Poland Cycling Trail Green Velo is a specially designed route with a length of more than 2,000 km, which has been prepared to give the full pleasure of traveling and discovering the country.

The exchange of tourists is carried out through direct contacts between tour operators in both markets.

After the pandemic tourism requires a modification of development and promotion strategies. Health and safety issues of travel are now a priority.

Minister Gut-Mostowy stressed the particular importance of developing tourism after the pandemic at the meeting. Key areas for Poland include:

  • education of tourist personnel,
  • research and knowledge transfer,
  • digitalisation,
  • infrastructure,
  • development of branded products,
  •  and above all - sustainable tourism.

Croatia is in the first twenty most popular tourist destinations in the world. The share of the service sector in GDP is over 70%. Out of that, tourism accounts for approximately 20%. Poland is one of the most important markets for Croatian inbound tourism

As Member States of the European Union, Poland and Croatia plan to use European funds to rebuild and support tourism economy after the pandemic.

The meeting ended with the conclusion that tourists should be encouraged to vaccinate in order to ensure the comfort of safe travel across Europe and the world. The technical system of the EU COVID certificates has been prepared, and countries are encouraged to join in. Poland was also included in the system on 1 June 2021. Together with Poland – Croatia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece decided to connect to the gateway and started issuing the first EU certificates.
