From 16 to 18 March, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Technology Michał Jaros visited Taiwan. The programme included participation in the Yushan Forum, the opening of the Smart City Summit & Expo and numerous bilateral meetings.

On the first day of the visit, the Deputy Minister took part in the opening of the Yushan Forum – one of the most important events in the Indo-Pacific region dedicated to economic cooperation and supply chain security. In his address, he stressed the importance of building resilient economic relations in the face of global tensions.

Poland wants to play an active role in building a strong technological ecosystem in Europe. Our economy is one of the most industrialised, and the development of sectors such as automotive and electromobility means growing demand for semiconductors and advanced technologies. We want to be a reliable partner in the European value chain. From design to advanced industrial processes. All this in cooperation with partners in Europe and around the world

Poland in the global semiconductor supply chain

One of the key topics addressed by the Deputy Minister was Poland’s role in the global semiconductor ecosystem. He stressed that the Polish economy – as one of the most industrialised in the European Union – is generating growing demand for advanced technologies, particularly in the automotive and electromobility sectors.

As one of the leaders in lithium-ion battery production, Poland is also developing as a market for data centres and cloud services. In the Deputy Minister’s view, this makes the country particularly vulnerable to disruptions in semiconductor supplies, while at the same time positioning it well to play an active role in their production and integration.

Deputy Minister Jaros indicated that Poland could play an important role in segments such as chip design, engineering services, advanced packaging and testing. He also emphasised the importance of regional cooperation within the so-called European ‘semiconductor triangle’ encompassing Dresden, Prague and Wrocław.

Debut of the Polish Pavilion at the Smart City Summit & Expo

For the first time in history, Poland has its own pavilion at the Smart City Summit & Expo in Taipei. The Deputy Minister officially opened the Polish stand and stressed the importance of the initiative in his address.

This is an important moment, not only symbolically but also in very practical terms. A national pavilion means greater visibility, a stronger presence and better conditions for concrete discussions with partners. It is also a clear signal that Poland wants to play an active role in developing solutions for the cities of the future 

– said Deputy Minister Jaros.

The Deputy Minister also drew attention to the dynamically developing economic cooperation between Poland and Taiwan. Initiatives such as the national pavilion and cooperation within the 8Foundry Alliance cluster are expected to accelerate this process.

The presence of Polish local authorities, universities and companies as part of this initiative was highlighted as a clear signal of Poland’s readiness to deepen technological cooperation.

Polish-Taiwanese B2B – cooperation gathers pace

On the final day of the visit, a B2B networking event brought together entrepreneurs from both countries. Deputy Minister Michał Jaros stressed that the past year had been a breakthrough period for economic relations between Poland and Taiwan.

In 2025, the largest-ever economic missions took place – both a Polish mission to Taiwan and a Taiwanese mission to Poland. In addition, the Taiwanese industry organisation TEEMA identified the potential of Poland’s ‘ICT triangle’, encompassing Wrocław, Katowice and Łódź.

Polish-Taiwanese cooperation is now entering a phase of greater intensity and mutual trust, while Poland aspires to become a gateway to the European market for Taiwanese companies. Further development of business contacts and the creation of new cooperation platforms remain key priorities.

Key bilateral meetings – business, investment and technology

An important element of the visit was a series of bilateral meetings covering both strategic issues and specific investment and technology projects.
During the talks in Taiwan, Deputy Minister Jaros emphasised the growing importance of bilateral relations. He pointed to the dynamic development of economic ties, the record number of business missions and plans to establish a Taiwanese technology park in Poland. Another important topic was the concept of launching a direct air connection. Plans for joint business events in 2026 were also discussed, along with cooperation in energy and the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises.
