Waldemar Sługocki Secretary of State

On request of Minister Krzysztof Hetman, Prime Minister Donald Tusk appointed Waldemar Sługocki as the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology.

Waldemar Sługocki graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. He has the title of the PhD in social sciences and Professor at the University of Zielona Góra, where he acts as the Head of Department of Regional Policy at the Faculty of Economy and Management.

He completed postgraduate studies in strategic research and analysis at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and Executive Master of Business Administration in Collegium Humanum – Warsaw Management University, Apsley Business School in London.

Waldemar Sługocki started his professional career in 1997 in the Voivodeship Office in Zielona Góra. In 1999 he moved to the Marshal Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship to take the position of the sub-inspector and then led his way up to the Deputy Head of the Department of Regional Policy. The Deputy Mayor of the City of Żagań between February 2007 and October 2008. In October 2008, he was nominated as the Head of the Department of Regional Development and Spatial Planning and later as the Head of the Department of the Regional Operational Programme of Lubuskie Voivodeship in the Marhsal Office of the Lubuskie Voivodeship in Zielona Góra.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development in 2010-2011. Responsible for the Innovative Economy and Human Capital EU programmes as well as for the spatial policy issues. Between January and November 2015, Waldemar Sługocki acted as the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development competent for among others the Infrastructure and Environment programme.

Author of numerous publications dedicated to regional policy, EU funds and local self-government.

Member of the Sejm of the 7th, 9th and 10th term and Senator of the 9th term. Co-chair of the Local Self-Government Regional Policy as well as the Foreign Affairs and European Union Affairs Committees in Sejm and Senate. Active also in the Economic and Development Committee.

Member of the Civic Platform. Chairman of the party’s structures in the Lubuskie Voivodeship and the member of its national board since 2016.

Married, father of a daughter.
