We are open to economic cooperation with Armenia

24.02.2021

Poland is interested in deepening economic cooperation with Armenia – these are the proceedings of the meeting of Robert Tomanek, under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, with Samvel Mkrtchian, Ambassador of Armenia in Poland. The meeting took place on the initiative of the Armenian side, which wants to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation. Meeting took place today (24 February) in the form of an on-line conference.

The Polish-Armenian economic cooperation is characterised by great volatility. Trade turnover in 2020 was marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 55.5 million dollars, which represents an 18% decline compared to 2019. In 2019, we saw an increase in mutual trade by 15.8%.

We are convinced that Armenia is a partner with which it is worth to cooperate, and I welcome the initiative of Mister Ambassador. Just like the other side, we believe that the work of the Commission should be stepped up and that the its sessions should also be accompanied by business meetings

- emphasised Robert Tomanek.

Polish companies are able to present investment opportunities in the area of IT and energy transformation

- he added.

Poland points out that the issue of the business environment in Armenia, the transparency of procedures and laws, as well as transparency of public policies in this area remain an important question.

Both sides agreed that meeting of the Polish-Armenian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation is the best platform for cooperation. The last meeting of the Commission took place two years ago in Warsaw. The next meeting will be hosted by Armenia, and the Ambassador proposed to have organised in Erevan in autumn this year. Minister Robert Tomanek admitted that this would be a good date, but stressed that the final decision on the format in which the meeting would be held was to be based on an analysis of the global pandemic situation.
