Cultural Diplomacy

The Department of Promotion and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland shapes, coordinates and implements Poland's cultural diplomacy worldwide.

As an integral part of the Ministry’s mandate, cultural diplomacy – alongside the economy and security - is an important instrument of Poland’s foreign policy.

Cultural diplomacy plays a vital role in strengthening Poland’s international position and influence. It is carried out by a global network of over 160 diplomatic missions, including 25 Polish Institutes, operating across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Our efforts are designed to enhance Poland’s visibility, credibility, and reputation abroad; to sustain dynamic bilateral relations; and to advance Poland’s raison d’état and foreign policy priorities. Cultural diplomacy enables Poland to engage in meaningful dialogue, build long-term partnerships, and contribute constructively to global debates.

By consciously and coherently applying soft power instruments, we promote not only Polish culture in its richness and diversity, but also Polish achievements in science, education, innovation, sport, tourism, and the economy, as well as the Polish language as a foreign language. This comprehensive approach allows us to shape a distinct and forward-looking image of Poland — a country rooted in tradition, yet open, modern, and globally engaged.

Cultural diplomacy goes beyond the promotion of culture alone. Its purpose is to foster mutual understanding and trust, creating space for dialogue and cooperation grounded in shared values. In doing so, it supports the objectives of Poland’s foreign policy and reinforces its commitment to international partnership and solidarity.

Cultural diplomacy is complementary to traditional diplomacy. It strengthens Poland’s global presence through culture, ideas, and common values.
