Many months of efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its wide-ranging intensive campaining for the Polish candidacy paved the way for the apppointment of a Polish national to the position of Director General of the CBSS Permament Secretariat. The efforts were personally supported by Minister Jacek Czaputowicz. Notably, Ambassador Grzegorz Poznański received the highest notes from the members of the CBSS Committee of Senior Officials and scored best among 80 formally accepted candidates.

Grzegorz Poznański is a career diplomat serving at the Ministry of Foreign Afairs of the Republic of Poland for 23 years. Appointed civil and foreign service member. During his professional career he has served in many positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad, including the functions of the department's director at the Department for European and for Security Policy, as well as many others. He was also posted in the Polish diplomatic missions in Geneva, Tallin, and recently in Vilnius. Grzegorz Poznański participated in many negotiations, meetings and international conferences, including issues related to disarmament and non-proliferation.  On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he coordinated the Polish presidency to the Council of the Baltic Sea States on 2015-2016. The Council of the Baltic Sea States, of which Poland is a founding member, is the most important Baltic intergovernmental organization, forum of political reflection  and project cooperation that gathers Poland, the Baltic and Nordic countries, Russia, Germany and an EU repersentative. The appointment of a Polish national for the head of the Secretariat  of such prestigious and recognized institution is Poland's major political achievement and effectively strengthens our position in the regional cooperation within the Baltic Sea area.

We are pleased with Poland's success and congratulate our colleague Ambassador Poznański.
