Ambassador Joanna Wronecka appointed UN Envoy to Lebanon

Ambassador Wronecka has many years of experience in diplomacy, both bilateral and multilateral. Since 2017, she has held the position of the Permanent Representative of Poland to the United Nations in New York. Prior to that, as the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was responsible for development cooperation, relations with the Middle East and African countries, and issues related to the United Nations and human rights. Before that, she served as Poland’s Ambassador to Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, and Mauritania. Moreover, under the European External Action Service, she was the head of the European Union Delegation to Jordan.

Appointing Ambassador Wronecka as UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon is an acknowledgement of Poland’s growing role on the international stage and proves that our country’s long-standing commitment to ensure peace and security in the Middle East is appreciated. Examples of Poland’s efforts include the resumed Polish military presence in the structures of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon since 2019 as well as Poland’s initiatives within the Warsaw Process and as a member of the UN Security Council in 2018-2019.
