The event was also an opportunity to take stock of economic diplomacy activities over the closing year and to outline the Foreign Ministry’s plans in this area for the next year.

“Economic diplomacy is a key instrument of our foreign policy and at the same time an important component of each country’s modern diplomacy,” stressed Deputy Minister Gerwel. “This belief was reflected in the initiative to establish, in 2014, Amicus Oeconomiae—an award of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for outstanding achievements in promoting and protecting the economic interests of Polish companies in foreign markets,” he added.

Deputy Minister Gerwel congratulated Marek Magierowski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United States and this year’s winner of the Amicus Oeconomiae award, and thanked him for his contribution to promoting the Polish economy and supporting Polish business in the US market. The deputy minister stressed that Ambassador Magierowski since the start of his mission has been skilfully using, in addition to the traditional diplomatic toolbox, new instruments to make our country more recognisable in American business circles. His professionalism, strong commitment to economic diplomacy, and valuable contacts in the US administration and among opinion-makers deserve deep appreciation and contribute to building a positive image of Poland and its economy in the United States.

In addition to the main award, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has sent congratulatory letters to four heads of foreign missions: Urszula Doroszewska, Polish Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania; Jakub Sławek, Polish Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates; Beata Stoczyńska, Polish Ambassador to Indonesia; and Krzysztof Strzałka, Polish Ambassador to the Slovak Republic.
