Arkadiusz Mularczyk awarded by "Children of War" Association

28.07.2023

Arkadiusz Mularczyk, Secretary of State for European Policies at the MFA and Government Plenipotentiary for Compensation for Damage Caused by German Aggression and Occupation in 1939-1945, has been awarded the Diamond Cross for his merits to Poland’s Children of War.

The award ceremony was held on 28 July at the MFA headquarters.

The "Children of War" Association brings together the victims of German invaders who were minor during World War II as well as their families. It assists its members in solving everyday problems related to access to medical services, social care, privileges for disabled persons and many others.

The association recognised Minister Mularczyk's efforts to obtain war compensation to Poland from Germany.

Receiving the accolade, Secretary of State Arkadiusz Mularczyk declared that he will continue to seek a positive conclusion to the issue of war reparations from Germany. He stressed that a financial settlement of this matter not only stands for historical justice but also offers a chance for a new opening in Polish-German relations based on mutual respect.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls that Germany’s chancellor, foreign minister and all members of the Bundestag have received the abridged German version of the report on war losses sustained by Poland, together with Government Plenipotentiary Mularczyk's letter. The MFA has also instructed Polish ambassadors all over the world to send letters on reparations to their German counterparts.

The Polish side hopes that intense diplomatic efforts as well as promoting the case for reparations worldwide will lead to Germany's engaging in dialogue on this matter and finally settling the issue of compensation amounting to 1.352 trillion EUR that it owes to Poland.

The victims of German aggression also included children. Their suffering is a warning for today’s generations that leaving the case of German reparations to Poland unresolved will encourage totalitarian regimes worldwide to rob and murder civilian population with impunity, as is now the case in Ukraine, among others.
