Czech minister’s first visit to Poland
05.05.2022
On 5 May, Minister Zbigniew Rau met in Warsaw with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský. This was the first time the Czech minister visited Poland after he assumed the position in the autumn of 2021.
The Czech minister also took part in a donors’ conference for Ukraine in the company of the prime ministers of Poland and Sweden. In this context, the Polish foreign minister stressed that Poland and the Czech Republic have much to offer to Ukraine.
The top diplomats discussed the matters currently on the bilateral agenda and the altered security situation in Central Europe after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Other important topics under discussion included energy security, sanctions against Russia, and support for Ukraine. The ministers also talked about the development of regional cooperation, including within the Visegrad Group and the Three Seas Initiative.
The visit reaffirms the importance attached by Poland and the Czech Republic to a close coordination of our policies towards Russia’s aggression against our eastern neighbour. The two ministers agreed that solidarity is of paramount significance in the face of the current crisis. “We must not let Russia divide us,” said Minister Rau.
