Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk greets repatriates from Kazakhstan
28.08.2020
“The COVID-19 pandemic caused border closures and air traffic suspension between many countries. It does not, however, exempt Polish authorities from obligations arising from our history and tradition to enable our nationals to return to Poland,” said today MFA Secretary of State Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk while greeting repatriates from Kazakhstan.
On 28 August 2020, at 6.15 p.m. a special plane of LOT Polish Airlines landed at the Poznań-Ławica airport with a group of 85 Polish repatriates from Kazakhstan on board. The Poles who returned to their homeland permanently were welcomed by MFA Secretary of State Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk. The event was also attended by representatives of local authorities, including those of the Sroda district. Most of the repatriates will spend their first weeks on the Polish soil in the adaptation centre for repatriates in Sroda Wielkopolska.
Air traffic suspension and several border closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic prevented many people of Polish descent from returning to their motherland. The government made efforts to bring this large group of Polish repatriates back home promptly and safely.
The special flight on the Nur-Sultan – Poznan route was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in cooperation with LOT Polish Airlines. Along with the repatriates, a group of Polish citizens returned home on broad the special plane.
