Deputy Minister Gerwel attends NATO-Ukraine Council in Brussels

29.11.2023

On 29 November, Undersecretary of State Wojciech Gerwel took part in a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council (NUC) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

View of the meeting

NATO foreign ministers and Ukraine's top diplomat Dmytro Kuleba discussed the current situation at the frontline as well as the country's war-related needs. Deputy Minister Gerwel pointed to the necessity to keep up the military aid for Kyiv, both on bilateral level and through NATO. He assured Ukraine of Poland's continued important political and military support. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy also expressed support for the package of priority reforms adopted by Kyiv, which bring Ukraine closer to the Alliance. In Deputy Minister Gerwel's opinion, next year's NATO summit in Washington should be another step on Ukraine's path towards the Alliance.

Today's meeting was the first held in this format, at the level of foreign ministers. The launch of the NUC at the Vilnius summit (11-12 July 2023), sought by Poland, is a significant element of bringing Ukraine practically closer to NATO.
