Deputy Minister Henryka Mościcka-Dendys and Advisory Legal Committee go on study visit to The Hague

On 17–19 February, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Henryka Mościcka-Dendys together with members of the Advisory Legal Committee participated in a study visit to The Hague. The purpose was to exchange information and step up cooperation with representatives of top international judicial institutions.

While in The Hague, the participants spoke with President of the International Criminal Court Tomoko Akane, Registrar of the International Criminal Court Osvaldo Zavala Giler, Registrar of the International Court of Justice Philippe Gautier, the courts’ judges, and Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration Marcin Czepelak, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Graciela Gatti Santana, and Executive Director of the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi.

The Hague also hosted a session of the Advisory Legal Committee of the Minister of Foreign Affairs which reviewed planned amendments to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court regarding the crime of aggression. The first Review Conference of the ICC’s Rome Statute had been held in 2010 in Kampala, Uganda. Further amendments to the Court’s Statute are being discussed and a special session of the Assembly of States Parties is scheduled for July in order to review amendments regarding the crime of aggression. The session was attended by Margareta Kassangana, Poland’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and Vice-President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute.

The Advisory Legal Committee of the Minister of Foreign Affairs was established in 1999. It currently brings together 15 distinguished legal scholars and practitioners. The Committee provides opinions on key issues in the field of international, EU, and domestic law.
