Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz visits Ukraine

14.12.2019

“Alongside our historical dialogue which remains at the top of the bilateral agenda, Poland and Ukraine would like to search for new forms of cooperation, with particular focus on the economy. If we complete infrastructural projects, modernize border crossings on the Ukrainian side and streamline rail and sea transport between our countries, we will boost our joint economic potential,” Polish deputy foreign minister said at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Vasyl Bodnar.

In Ukraine, Deputy Minister Przydacz also met with Ukrainian President’s Deputy Chief of Staff Ihor Zhovkva and Ukrainian Deputy Infrastructure Minister Natalia Forsiuk. They focused on Polish-Ukrainian economic cooperation, historical dialogue and issues related to transport and energy. They also discussed education in the Polish language in Ukraine. Polish MFA’s undersecretary of state pointed out that Poland wants to cooperate with the Ukrainian government in areas that are of major importance for the success of Ukraine’s transition, such as decentralization reform, fight against corruption and overhaul of public administration.

The officials also spoke about security, putting an emphasis on the outcome of the Normandy Format summit in Paris. “We hope that the conclusions agreed at the meeting on 9 December will be consistently implemented,” said Deputy Minister Przydacz. He added that the Polish side expects the announced ceasefire regime to be fully implemented by the end of 2019. Deputy Minister Przydacz also expressed his hope that the measures agreed in Paris, mainly the arrangement on three additional disengagement areas, the implementation of an updated mine clearance plan and the opening of new crossing points on the line of contact will be critical to de-escalate tensions and protect Donbas’ civilian population.

Earlier on, Deputy Minister Przydacz attended a meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Youth Exchange Council held in Czernihiv, and met with participants of Polish scholarship programmes.
