Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński visits New York and Washington

On 4-6 March 2020, Undersecretary of State Paweł Jabłoński visited the United States. The visit focused on economic cooperation between Poland and the United States, as well as public and cultural diplomacy. During a ceremony at the Polish Consulate in New York, Deputy Minister Jabłoński handed Adrian Kubicki his nomination to the position of Polish Consul General.

The deputy foreign minister emphasised that the New York mission is one of the most important Polish representations abroad, not only due to the huge local Polish community, but also due to its political and cultural dimension and the potential for economic cooperation. Together with Speaker of the Polish Sejm Elżbieta Witek and the newly appointed Consul General, Deputy Foreign Minister Jabłoński commemorated the victims of the Katyn massacre by laying flowers at the Katyn Memorial in Jersey City.

While in Washington, Deputy Minister Jabłoński met with the representatives of the US administration and international organisations for economic cooperation. At the Department of State, the minister held talks with Keith Krach, Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, covering Polish and US cooperation under the Three Seas Initiative, global connectivity and the American Blue Dot Network initiative, which is aimed at supporting infrastructure, digital and energy projects on a global scale. The officials also discussed US investments in Poland, mainly in the area of new technologies. While at the National Security Council, Deputy Minister Jabłoński talked about the Three Seas Initiative and joint energy projects, which are key from the perspective of strategic security of our region. The talks at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) focused on Poland-US cooperation in the area of development assistance and humanitarian aid in the Western Balkans, Eastern Partnership countries, Central Asia and the Middle East. The joint involvement in these projects and in the Three Seas Initiative was also discussed during Deputy Minister Jabłoński’s meeting with World Bank’s Vice President Makhtar Diop.

While in New York and Washington, Deputy Minister Jabłoński met with the representatives of American business who are interested in investing in Poland and the directors of Foreign Trade Offices of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. The discussions covered upcoming initiatives to support the activities of Polish entrepreneurs on the US market and ways to encourage American investors to cooperate with Polish partners.
