Deputy Minister Przydacz visits United States

22.07.2022

Between 20 and 22 July in Aspen, Colorado, Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz took part in the 13th Aspen Security Forum conference, in the margins of which he had a series of talks with representatives of the US political scene, private sector, and think-tanks.

Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz took part in the 13th Aspen Security Forum conference.

During the panel discussion “A New, Stronger NATO” on strengthening the North Atlantic Alliance, Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz presented Poland’s position as a state on the eastern flank. He found the decisions taken at the June Alliance Summit in Madrid to be important for NATO’s further transformation process in response to the deteriorating Euro-Atlantic security environment, as a consequence of the armed conflict beyond Poland’s eastern borders.

The deputy head of Polish diplomacy also outlined how Poland as a front state contributes to increased security of the Alliance, including through continued and substantial investments in the modernisation of the Polish Armed Forces. He recalled that Poland is one of the main donors of military and humanitarian aid and has hosted over three million refugees from Ukraine.

“It is of utmost importance that we do not give in to a kind of ‘war fatigue;’ we need to be constantly determined to provide the help Ukraine needs to defend its independence,” said Deputy Minister Przydacz. In this context, he called on the international community to continue to support Ukraine politically, militarily and economically and to engage in the post-war reconstruction of the country.

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Przydacz held a series of talks with representatives of the organisers (co-chair of the Aspen Security Group and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice), US Congress (Congressmen Brendan Boyle and Ruben Gallego), the private sector (including Michèle Flournoy, the founder of WestExec Advisors, Stephen Biegun, the former US Deputy Secretary of State), and experts (including Fiona Hill of the Brookings Institution).
