Deputy Minister Wawrzyk attends opening of “I was a Pole – citizen of Ukraine” exhibition

“On this day, we are opening an exhibition featuring representatives of Polish minority in Ukraine who perished while fighting the Russian oppressor. I strongly believe that the memory of those common heroes of Ukraine and Poland will become one of the particularly firm foundations of our relations in the new, post-war reality,” said Deputy Minister Wawrzyk as he opened the display.

The exhibition features biographical notes of Ukrainian soldiers of Polish descent who have been killed during the full-scale Russian aggression on Ukraine since 24 February 2022. From the beginning of Russia’s attack on Ukraine in 2014, many young Poles have been fighting shoulder to shoulder with their Ukrainian fellow soldiers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Their lives offered and blood shed are tokens of their fervent patriotism and unwavering solidarity with their Homeland, till the end.

The exhibition was initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and funded from its Polish-community-abroad budget. It was prepared in cooperation with the Polish Consulate General in Lviv, Centre of Polish Culture and European Dialogue in Ivano-Frankivsk, and the Freedom and Democracy Foundation.
