Political, economic, as well as cultural and scientific matters were at the centre of the 12th round of bilateral consultations led by Deputy Minister Wojciech Zajączkowski. The talks, held in Santiago de Chile on 1 December, confirmed the very good state of Polish-Chilean relations.
Deputy Minister Wojciech Zajączkowski met with his counterpart, Gloria de la Fuente. Matters discussed during the consultations included the main challenges regarding the current international agenda, the issues of bilateral trade, Arctic cooperation, and research on astrophysics. This meeting confirmed that Poland and Chile have similar views on a number of important international issues, especially on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which the Chilean government consistently and openly condemns.
While staying in Chile, the deputy minister of foreign affairs also visited the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, where he gave a speech on the success of Polish transition and held talks with the executive secretary of ECLAC.
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Zajączkowski delivered a lecture on Poland’s eastern policy to young Chilean diplomats at the Diplomatic Academy. The deputy minister of foreign affairs also visited an astronomical observatory in the northern part of Chile, managed by the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Ignacy Domeyko’s historic house in Santiago. Additionally, the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy laid a wreath at the tomb of our distinguished compatriot.
During a meeting with Poles living in Chile, the undersecretary of state presented a prominent activist of the Polish diaspora with an honorary distinction for his contribution to the Polish diaspora and Poles. Deputy Minister Zajączkowski also presented honorary consuls in Concón and Punta Arenas with acts of appointment for their next terms.
