Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski meets journalists from Latin America
02.12.2025
The situation in Central and Eastern Europe, with particular emphasis on our region's security aspects and the consequences of the war in Ukraine for the international order, dominated the agenda of Foreign Minister Sikorski's meeting with journalists from South America.
Held at the MFA headquarters, the event was attended by leading media representatives from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.
Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski stressed the importance of democratic countries’ solidarity in the face of Russia’s aggressive policy and the growing role of transatlantic cooperation.
During a Q&A session, the journalists raised issues related to the war’s impact on global security, prospects for European integration, and Poland’s role in shaping the EU’s Eastern policy. The conversation was an opportunity to exchange views on the relationship between Europe and Latin America in the context of shared values and challenges. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented Poland’s perspective on the process of ratifying the Mercosur treaty. Also discussed were various aspects of NATO’s and the EU’s involvement in building global security in cooperation with the United States, as well as China’s global role.
The meeting was part of a study visit organised by the MFA Department for Strategic Communications and Countering Foreign Disinformation jointly with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Romania and Ukraine and the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation of the Republic of Moldova. The visit lasts from 16 November to 3 December and covers Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Poland. During their stay, the participants met with representatives of government administration, international organisations, the creative sector, and NGOs. While on a visit to Kyiv, the journalists were forced to seek safety in a shelter, and spent most of the night there, as Russian drones carried another night attack on Ukraine’s capital.
The aim of the visit was to present the gravity of the threats and the related role of Poland as a frontline state, as well as sensitising the participants to the perspective of countries that struggle with both warfare and hybrid operations on a daily basis. Such visits also serve to deepen journalists’ understanding of challenges related to security, disinformation, and the situation in the region. They also strengthen cooperation and the ability to counter disinformation based on a whole-of-society approach.
This was the third in a series of visits dedicated to journalists from abroad and co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with foreign partners, with the first two visits also organised with support from the European External Action Service. During the first one, journalists from Africa (Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Tanzania, and Côte d'Ivoire) visited the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Poland. During the second one, journalists from Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe learned about the perspective of Ukraine and Poland.
