Maximising support for Ukraine, maintaining current policies towards Russia and Belarus, as well as strengthening the European Union’s and its partners’ security and resilience are the priority areas for the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union as part of common foreign and security policy. Minister Radosław Sikorski outlined them at today’s session of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The head of Polish diplomacy drew attention to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. He pointed to the need for further EU political and financial support for Kyiv. Minister Sikorski declared that the Polish Presidency will take care of the momentum and quality of the European Union’s enlargement to the East and South. He added that the Presidency’s goal is to make progress with respect to Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the Western Balkans. As a co-initiator of the Eastern Partnership, Poland’s top diplomat announced plans to update and reinvigorate the format. In order to strengthen the security and resilience of the EU and its partners, the Polish Presidency will also seek to develop the Union’s defence dimension. We will also work to deepen the EU–NATO cooperation.
