Foreign Minister meets leader of Belarusian democratic opposition Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya

08.01.2024

Head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski has met today with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her accompanying delegation.

Minister Radosław Sikorski met with Swiatlana Tsikhanouskaya

Minister Sikorski emphasised Poland’s commitment to supporting civil society in Belarus. He applauded the activities of the Belarusian democratic opposition in exile and expressed support for the country’s democratic and European aspirations.

The meeting proved an opportunity for underscoring Poland’s objection to policies pursued by the Minsk authorities, which since the rigged presidential election of August 2020 have continued to stamp out all symptoms of independence, with repression targeting the regime’s political opponents at an unprecedented scale.

Poland has continuously called on Belarusian decision-makers to release all political prisoners, including Andrzej Poczobut, held in custody since March 2021, and stop the repression of Belarusian society.
